Connors RSI(2) Dip in Uptrend¶
What it does: Buys short, sharp dips inside a long-term uptrend and sells on the first bounce. This only buys when the price is above its 200-day average (an uptrend). It buys when 2-period RSI, a very fast 0-100 gauge of the last couple of candles, drops below 10, and sells when the price closes above its 5-candle average.
Style: Mean reversion · Difficulty: Intermediate · Risk: medium · Ready: 3 of 3 variants
When people use it: It tends to work on pullbacks inside a steady uptrend.
Where it struggles: It struggles when the trend breaks and dips keep falling. It was designed for stock indexes; crypto moves differently, so check how it behaves on your coin in a backtest and on paper first.
Markets it was written for: BTC, ETH, SOL. Timeframes: 1d (original) or 4h.
Open it in the Strategy Library (on the Strategies page), pick a variant, adjust the settings and press Add to my strategies. It becomes your own strategy: edit, backtest or trade it like any other.

Settings
| Setting | Default | Editable | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| RSI-2 buy level | 10 | Yes | How oversold the market must be to buy. Higher (closer to 20) buys more often on milder dips; lower (closer to 2) buys only sharp drops, so fewer trades. |
| Trend average | 200 | Yes | The long-term average that defines an uptrend. Shorter lets it trade in younger trends (more trades, more false starts); longer is stricter. |
| Exit average | 5 | Yes | Sells when the price closes above this short average. Shorter exits sooner with smaller gains; longer holds a bit longer for a bigger bounce, with more time for the dip to resume. |
| Stop-loss % | 8 | Yes | Closes the trade if the price moves this far against your entry. Tighter limits each loss but gets hit more often by normal swings; wider gives the trade more room but each losing trade costs more. If you use leverage, keep it well inside your liquidation distance. |
How it works (as shown in the app)
- This only buys when the price is above its 200-day average (an uptrend). It buys when 2-period RSI, a very fast 0-100 gauge of the last couple of candles, drops below 10, and sells when the price closes above its 5-candle average.
- It skips buys when ADX (trend strength) is above 30 with sellers in control.
- It tends to work on pullbacks inside a steady uptrend.
- It struggles when the trend breaks and dips keep falling. It was designed for stock indexes; crypto moves differently, so check how it behaves on your coin in a backtest and on paper first.
- The stop-loss is a safety net; the normal exit is the bounce above the 5-candle average. A time limit on trades would help and is coming later.

- The stop-loss is a safety net; the normal exit is the bounce above the 5-candle average. A time limit on trades would help and is coming later.
- This version uses ConnorsRSI instead of RSI(2): a blend of a fast RSI, how many candles in a row the price has risen or fallen, and how today's move ranks against the last 100.
- On thin, low-volume pairs, add an UNLESS rule that skips entries when volume is very low or zero (for example: UNLESS Volume is below an amount you pick for that pair). Quiet markets give false dips.
- Candles where the price doesn't change push ConnorsRSI up. On quiet pairs it will reach your buy level less often, so you'll see fewer trades. If the price doesn't move at all for a long stretch, ConnorsRSI has no value and the strategy won't buy.
Warnings¶
- Once added, the strategy's conditions get the usual condition checks. Messages show under each condition on the entry / exit conditions screen; setting errors start with the indicator's short name (for example "MACD: Fast must be between 1 and 1000") and block saving, while the other warnings never block saving and repeat in the strategy's Entry or Exit section. See the indicator pages below for each one.
- "You already have this strategy with these settings (…). Change a setting to add another copy.": shown on the variant's page in the Strategy Library when you already added this variant with the same settings.
Good to know¶
- After you add it, the strategy keeps the library's trigger and an Auto main timeframe; you can change both in the builder. Nothing links it back to the library, except that the builder still shows the library's explanations in the info bubbles.
- Changing a setting before adding it also changes the saved name, so you can tell copies apart.
- Past results don't predict future ones. Try it in a backtest and on paper before using real money.
- Indicators used: ADX, CRSI, RSI, SMA.
